You can also incorporate some simple but sleek storage solutions, and ambient lighting. We also recommend adding soft touches — like an area rug—to absorb sound and create a sense of separation from the rest of your suite.

The Extra Bedroom
Need room for guests? A daybed or sleek sleeper sofa provides flexibility, and if you need your den to do double duty, consider a Murphy bed (for example, this modern wall bed with a folding desk). It folds up during the day to give you space, and often comes with built-in storage solutions or bookshelves. We suggest a light and simple colour palette with minimal decor, to help it feel a little more spacious. If privacy is a concern, a stylish room divider can provide a visual and acoustic barrier that takes up hardly any space when open.

The Playroom or Nursery
If you have a little one — or will soon — the den makes perfect sense for a nursery or playroom. Choose soft, neutral colours to keep the space feeling open, and opt for convertible furniture like a crib that becomes a toddler bed. Then, consider small toy bins, a change table, wall-mounted bookshelves, and soft floor mats to help keep things organized and kid-friendly. A dimmable light fixture is also a good idea for those nighttime feeds or storybook sessions.
