Richmond Hill, as a city, has a lot going for it: exceptional green spaces, top-tier healthcare facilities, and location in the heart of the Greater Toronto Area. But one of the prime selling points, especially for growing families, is its prestigious education system.
In its annual school rankings, the Fraser Institute, an independent think tank, has consistently ranked Richmond Hill’s primary and secondary schools among the best in Ontario. These scores are based on publicly available, standardized EQAO test scores in math, reading, and writing across several grades.
Of the more than 700 secondary schools and 3,000 primary schools included in the latest rankings, there are four top-ranked primary schools and three secondary schools whose catchment areas include our communities: Legacy Hill and Red Oaks. One of these secondary schools, Bayview Secondary, was ranked in the top 10, and two more primary schools placed in the top 100. All seven received top marks.
“Our school report cards offer detailed tables showing how well schools performed in academics over a number of years,” it says on the Fraser Institute’s website.
“By combining a variety of relevant, objective indicators of school performance into one easily accessible public web site, the school report cards allow teachers, parents, school administrators, students, and taxpayers to analyze and compare the academic performance of individual schools in an attempt to answer the question, ‘How are our schools doing?’”
