Starting in April, the Government of Ontario, in partnership with the federal government, released a new rebate that can save you the 13% HST on a newly constructed home. This new rebate was implemented to help families realize the dream of homeownership and encourage the creation of new housing in the province.
The maximum rebate of $130,000 applies to homes valued up to $1.5 million, with a declining rebate on homes valued up to $1.85 million. The program will be in effect only until March 31, 2027, so if you’re thinking of a new home, now is the time.
Who Does it Apply to?
- You must be 18 or older
- You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- You must be using the home as your primary residence*
- You must not have previously claimed this rebate
